AI is everywhere! Yes, it must be silly not to admit these days that AI has already shaped what we see, what we read, and maybe how we think of things. The output of AI is delivered in just a few clicks by easy access to chat models and ai-powered tools.
This topic came across my mind the other day when I saw someone on X said "Crazy how easy it is to recognise the AI syntax." Wow. So true. When you use it a lot, you are familiar to how the sentences are formed, their tone of writing and you might think "ugh, again" and scroll through. And that's exactly the reason behind this article.
In this era, it has never been more important to stay authentic and original amongst overloaded ai-crafted information. Keeping each person's individuality has become more important. We must level up our game with ai to be genuine and original as much as possible. How do we do that? Let's explore…
How to Be Original in the Age of AI
Level up your writing skills.
With the use of ai these days, texts are easily generated based on a prompt we give to a chat model. It's quick and time-efficient but still not in our own words. Which means it can goes through our head and disappear. Can you remember some ai-generated text ai did for you awhile back? The answer is probably "no" and it's likely because we don't own those words. There's no originality in what ai gives us.
Writing in your own words, on the other hands, gives a lot of benefits in connecting your thoughts. You really put your brain into work here. You own every single word and feelings in the text you write. It is sincere. Writing is not easy but it is not difficult either. You don't have write about big things. When you have a chance to write, start with something simple like journaling, diary, blogs, poetry or your post captions. Remember the one condition, you must write in your own words. And we're gonna start sharpening our writing skills from here.
I mostly read self-help books and some novels….. I know what you think about self-help hahaaa. What I try to get from reading is to see how other people see the world. You're basically learning from the work of someone's hard work. Before a book is published, the author puts a lot of work and proofreads it over again until it is 99-100% refined. You can even hear their voice or feel what they feel through reading.
But how does it relate to the topic? While writing is the output, reading is the input. You feed your brain with more food. These two skills complement each other. The more you read, the more you collect vocabs and also the more you're exposed to ideas. Once ideas are restored in your heads, they can be picked up at any time and reused in your own writing.
Do things that AI can't do for you
either exercise, making a coffee, or photography. The goal of this is to build the emphasis of human activities. A reminder to ourselves that without AI, humans are capable of doing many things. At least, I like to think that way. When it comes to exercise, your muscles cannot be generated by AI, right? It's your work and effort to hit the gym every day to become strong. Cooking, in the same way, requires an effort to prepare and to cook.
Gain experiences
Humans are good at learning by experience. The aim here is to gain real-life experiences to build your character. You really need to put yourself out there to explore, build connections, fall in love, travel, a lot of things… you name it. To be able to keep your individuality, you must know your stand in the world. And to know your stand in the world, you must give yourself enough time to explore. Learning and failing.
This is just my personal thought about AI from a consumer's perspective. In my workspace, AI is very helpful for my tasks. I believe that AI is tasked to complete a job. It is not meant to think under your name, or become you, or replace you.
Since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022 and the following other AI models & thousands of AI-powered tools, we see that this is just the beginning of the AI era. It'll be interesting to see how it evolves in the next 5 years…
